Why regular sweeping matters
It ignites at chimney temperatures a hot fire can reach. NFPA 211 calls for cleaning at just 1/8 inch of buildup.
A narrowed flue can't vent combustion gases. Carbon monoxide takes the easier path — into your living room.
A dated report with photos is exactly what insurers ask for after any fireplace-related claim.
Sweeping questions, answered
How do I know my chimney needs sweeping?
A campfire smell indoors, smoke that lingers or drifts back, black flakes in the firebox — or simply a year since your last service. More detail in our guide to the warning signs your chimney needs attention.
Will sweeping make a mess?
No. We seal the fireplace opening, lay runners from the door to the hearth, and keep a HEPA vacuum running the entire time. Dust stays in the flue and in our equipment.
How long does a sweep take?
Most single-flue sweeps take 45–90 minutes including the camera check and report. Curious how often you need one? Read how often chimneys should be cleaned.
